Secondary schools usually have large outside spaces with huge potential but this is often undervalued and underused. The outside space provides a practical and relevant context for learning that can be used to deliver many areas of the curriculum.
We must not forget that secondary age children still need to ‘play’, although we may use a different vocabulary. Ensuring that young people have safe and welcoming places outdoors to socialise, eat, play football, etc., is essential to their well-being and performance at school.
These case studies give examples of how we have helped secondary schools develop their outdoor provision.
