Primary teacher training – Taking the Curriculum Outside, full day

“I found this course extremely useful and inspirational”
“Thank you for a very motivating and informative training day”
Participant feedback

This course was attended by primary teachers from all Key Stages as well as from a Special School.  The aims of the day were:

• To explore the benefits to pupils/teachers of going outside
• To experience lessons outside and get practical ideas
• To gain inspiration and ideas from other schools
• To begin to think differently about your teaching – and include the outdoors as a possibility

The training day was very hands on and interactive and aimed to motivate and inspire participants to take their teaching and learning outside.

Although all areas of the curriculum can be delivered and enhanced by outdoor learning the day focussed mainly on Literacy, Numeracy and Art, with participants experiencing many activities first hand and getting inspiration and ideas from a wide range of examples undertaken by other schools and settings.  Other subjects were included, again with practical ideas from other schools.

Participants were encouraged throughout the day to reflect on their learning and consider how to apply their experiences to their own teaching, resulting in individual activity and curriculum planning, and a commitment to share their experiences and learning back at school.
